Smart Casual Workwear

How To Do Smart Casual Women’s Workwear

With the return to the office and business trips in full swing, even the most corporate companies are now endorsing a slightly less formal dress code for women. The ‘smart casual’ aspect of workplace dressing it seems is here to stay, and with this comes versatility, as wardrobes no longer need to have such a strict work to leisure divide.

Buy pieces you'd wear post 5pm and into the weekend to ensure you'll get real mileage out of your purchases. The rise of tailoring from high street to designer is making this easier than ever. Suits are ideal because they also work as separates, creating numerous outfits from 2 pieces. If you a matching set isn’t your thing, just buy the blazer. The blazer is a versatile go-to for stylish women everywhere – it will smarten up jeans and give dress and skirts an edge.

Introducing some leather pieces in a neutral or black also works well. Add a silky shirt for work or a jazzy top and heels for evening. There really is so much scope for every body shape, personal style, industry and budget.

Shoes are also a game changer from transitioning an outfit from smart to smart casual. With smart trainers, brogues, loafers and flats all now acceptable office wear.

Here are 4 personal styling looks to get you started:

Smart Casual On The Go

An ideal outfit for those who walk to work, or have a job that require both being desk based and on your feet.

All items except the trousers (swap those for jeans) work outside of office hours.

Edgy Feminine

Love pencil skirts, but feel they may now look a bit dated? The answer is the leather pencil skirt - styles now come in an array of colours not just black. Pointed flats always look better with a pencil skirt than a round toe shoe.

Wear the skirt with a tee or statement top for evening.

Spring Dressing

Workwear dresses no longer need to feel like a suit of armour or have to be worn with high heel courts (unless you want to of course, I am all about personal choice).

All of these items could be worn separately outside of the office.

Sporty Smart Casual

You can’t have failed to notice the rise of the smart tracksuit style trouser. Add a blazer then belt the blazer for a chic waist defining look - if you don’t have a defined waist leave the belt. Trainers look best with this outfit.

Wear the bottoms with a tee for an easy Sunday lunch.
